The Holy Spirit Catholic Community was joined by
Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase at a groundbreaking ceremony for the first step
toward building a new, multi-million dollar church and school that was held at
1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. The ceremony took place at the church's property on
Gathe Road, and commemorated the beginning of work on installing a sewer system
to the building site. Bowman's Inc. of Mountain Home was recently awarded a
$142,000 contact for the sewer installation project. |
| "While this is just the
beginning of a long project, it's a very important step in eventually building
a new Holy Spirit Church and School," said Father Enrique Terriquez, pastor of
Holy Spirit. "The community has been very supportive so far -- we've raised
over $2 million and it's good to see some actual construction work result from
that generosity." The estimated cost of completing the new church building is
yet to be determined but will be in the near future as the architects, BCDM in
Omaha, work through the schematic design phase of the project. Holy Spirit is
in the process of hiring a consultant to assist with the second phase of its
capital campaign to raise the funding necessary to begin construction on the
church building. Other infrastructure work, including completion of the pad and
installation of other infrastructure, could begin in by this fall. A new school
building is also part of the long-term construction plan. |
